1949-2007
Richard Catt sadly passed away on the 17 July 2007 from a heart attack. His death was untimely and unexpected and is a great loss for all at Madderns. He was only 57 years of age.
Richard was a well respected Australian Patent and Trade Mark Attorney with 36 years experience in the profession. A man of absolute integrity who always put his clients first. He was a person who led by example.
Richard joined Ken Maddern in the practice of R K Maddern & Associates in 1971. He had an Applied Science Degree in Metallurgy which he obtained from the University of Adelaide. He qualified as a registered Patent Attorney in 1976 and entered partnership with Ken in 1977.
The firm has grown dramatically over the last 15 years under Richard's guidance as the firm's senior partner. It grew from two partners and a staff of 12 in 1992 to seven partners with a total staff of over 40 people prior to his death. The growth of the firm was a testament to Richard's skill as a patent attorney and his business ability.
Richard was a member of IPTA (Institute of Patent & Trademark Attorneys), INTA, AIPPI, LESANZ, FICPI and was well known in the PatGot group.
He was a talented sportsman who represented South Australia in interstate baseball and led his club team of Sturt to a premiership in 1978. He was a single figure handicap golfer in his youth and a keen player in more recent years. He devoted his free time to fishing and being with friends and family.
Richard was held in high regard by his colleagues and the staff of Madderns. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all those he knew and dealt with. His wife Angie, children Tony, Tanya, Julie and Lisa and grandchildren Maegan, Lachie and Angus are in our thoughts.
